Job Title: CAD Operator / Drafter

Primary Responsibilities:

Utilize Solid Edge 3D CAD system to produce detailed assembly and piece part drawings of downhole, high pressure oilfield tools with minimal supervision. Be the lead drafter in managing and facilitating all company ECRs.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 1. Utilize Solid Edge 3D CAD software to draft detailed working drawings of assembly and piece parts from rough, general design 3D models.
  • Draft multiple views of mechanical assemblies, sub assemblies, layouts, wiring diagrams, and associated bills of material. Show dimensions, materials to be used, and other information necessary to make assembly drawings clear and complete.
  • Achieve and maintain the highest level of accuracy and precision.
  • Modify and revise drawings to reflect design changes, correct errors and reduce production problems as required by Engineering Change Orders (ECRs).
  • Perform design work and indicate important information necessary to make detailed drawings clear and complete.
  • Measure prototype parts to scale using calipers and/or micrometers and perform basic math calculations to show precise dimensions. Understand critical geometric tolerances and fits.
  • Reproduce, organize and file drawings, specifications and procedures as needed.
  • Interact with other departments and engineers to resolve problems and answer questions.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree in Engineering Drafting and Design or equivalent program.
  • Minimum 3-5 years mechanical drafting related experience.
  • Strong understanding of drafting procedures, GDT, ANSI standards, and experience with mechanical threads, mechanical components and BOMs.
  • Experience with a 3D CAD program, preferably Solid Edge.
  • Experience with Altium Designer, PCB board design software, a plus.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Meticulous accuracy and high speed in drafting work and recordkeeping.
  • Self-driven, quick learner, analytical, problem solver, detailed, personable.
  • Excellent verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Mechanical knowledge in high pressure, threaded tubulars.
  • Competent in MS Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Knowledge in electronics, PC board and schematic layouts a plus.
  • Oilfield experience a plus.
