Geophysical Research Company, LLC is a technology company that manufactures gauges to measure pressure and temperature at the bottom of an oil/gas well. Well pressure is one of the most significant parameters to determine oil reserves, production rates, financial commitment, and the life of the well. Pressure needs to be measured when the well is drilled, perforated, brought into production, producing, and plugged. It is also a critical variable during the secondary and tertiary recovery processes and is utilized to control and measure pump performance (ESP, PCP and Rod pumps).
Obtaining down hole pressures is critical to the performance of a well and therefore must be measured by accurate and reliable pressure gauges. GRC fills this requirement with gauges that span the complete well production cycle.
In building pressure gauges, GRC manufacturers its own pressure transducers (quartz and capacitance) that can withstand the severe bottom-hole conditions found in drilling wells. We have specialized in producing these types of pressure gauges for the past 77 years, since 1929.
Back then the first gauge was a mechanical gauge, made up of a bourdon tube transducer, a mechanical clock, and a brass chart used for recording. It was initially patented in 1929 and is still in use today in every oil field in the world.
In 1978 GRC began to build a proprietary transducer, called the parallel plate capacitance transducer. It became one of the most rugged and accurate gauges ever produced and is still manufactured today for all facets of pressure measuring, with its main use in the pump (ESP/PCP) market.
In 1995 GRC began building quartz pressure gauges utilizing quartz crystal transducers, manufactured in-house by our own crystal experts. It is understood throughout the industry that quartz is the gold standard for accuracy and stability. Our quartz crystal gauge is the only quartz memory pressure recorder completely manufactured by one company.
Today GRC produces a complete line of pressure gauges for use throughout the life of a well from drilling to production to shut-in:
- DST gauges for drill stem testing
- Memory gauges for production testing
- Memory production logging gauges for well maintenance
- ESP/ PCP gauges for control and monitoring of pumps
- Permanent gauges for continuous monitoring and control of a well
- Surface readout tools (SRO) for electric line logging of a well.
- Surface well head gauges for measuring well head pressure.
